Interview with Commissioner Boab of the PFL, January Edition

Interview with Boab, the commissioner of the Professional Football League

Host: Hello everyone and welcome to the first of our monthly installments where we meet commissioners and hosts! Every day for this point forward, and culminating with Commissioner Mantis’s league report, we will have an interview with either a coach or a commissioner. Joining me today, January 11th, 2053, is the commissioner of the PFL, Boab.

Boab: Hello.

Host: There is exciting news coming out of the PFL for this coming season. Can you describe the season format?

Boab: Well, yes. First of all, there will be 8 teams instead of the usual 7 that we spotlight and follow throughout the year. This is the first change of many that we hope to bring to the league.

Host: So for the playoffs, what will happen to the elimination-free spot of 1st place, much let alone the bye it carried with it?

Boab: The bye will be eliminated. So will the immunity from relegation that comes with it.

Host: Rumor has it that trades will be allowed.

Boab: That is correct. For the first time ever, stats of players will be kept and trades will be allowed.

Host: And will the commissioner oversee the trades?

Boab: No. Teams will have free reign for the trades.

Host: Will there be a coach draft as there had been in the past?

Boab: Yes, only now, players will actually be drafting coaches, rather than playbooks.

Host: Will coaches still be allowed to be fired by week 10?

Boab: Yes. If a coach is fired by week 5, teams will be able to select another coach. If it happens later than week 5, they must nominate a player to double as coach. Remember that players will actually have the authority, as they have had in the past, to remove a coach. The only thing the owner of the team does is make the announcement.

Host: Finally, let’s talk scheduling with the non-spotlit/non-major teams.

Boab: Teams will be split into 8 segments, to be realigned each year, based on past, overall record. The major teams will then play the others within that division and also at least twice with each other. I say AT LEAST twice because it is possible for some major teams to play each other more than once.

Host: And for the bye week...?

Boab: The season will still remain the same: 20 games, 21 weeks. The point at which the bye is taken must be voted on by all the spotlit teams. During that week, 8 minor teams will be selected to play games that have no bearing on the regular season as far as the season goes, but will count towards their overall record.

Host: Sounds like this year will be exciting!

Boab: Yes it will be!

Host: One last question: Who will be the eighth team to join for the 2053-54 season?

Boab: That’s for fans to decide. All will be revealed in the last week in June.

Host: Thank you very much!

Boab: No problem!

Host: THE PFL commissioner, Boab, talking about NEXT season. A reminder that THIS season is still going on and will be until February.
